"Space Invaders"                                       reproduced in part with permission from HappyHaflingers.com and author Haley Madden
At times there is a downside to the friendly, outgoing nature of the Haflinger: they can become too friendly.  They’re in your pockets, nuzzling your hair, and walking all over you (often looking for treats!) unless you’re careful.   It is our responsibility to maintain respectful relationships with our horses, and that includes asking them to respect our space. The Haflinger’s natural gregariousness and motivation by food and treats leads him towards nosiness, and we have to be very mindful of that particular personality trait. Be careful about allowing any pushiness, as it may lead to more dangerous situations.  Insisting on good ground manners from a young age can go a long way in developing a well mannered horse!
